CEO CORNER
Hard Vacations and Cybersecurity
I’ve known of a rating system for fun and vacations for many years. And my vacations tend to fall into one of these categories. Type 1 fun is fun while you are doing it, and fun while it’s happening. Think of an amusement park, Disneyland, or your classic beach vacation. My oldest son recently got engaged, and I headed to Los Angeles for a weekend to visit his fiancé’s family for a celebration. This was a fun time overall.

Type 2 fun is not fun while it’s happening, but the memories, experience and stories are worth it. I am lucky to have friends that invited me to hike the Grand Canyon this year. Hiking to the bottom is optional, hiking back to the top is mandatory! This was one of the hardest things I have done in the past 5 years. But looking at the pictures and retelling the stories, it’s all positive looking back at the adventure.
Cybersecurity can be similar. Robust passwords, good firewalls, patched systems, Anti-virus. Those are easy to take care of and enforce, Type One.
Cloud services monitoring, multi-factor authentication, least privilege rights, risk management assessment. Type Two: It can be a lot of work to implement, but it feels good once you complete the process that you have protected your company.
In another section of this newsletter, we welcome Craig Urban, Jatag’s new Cybersecurity professional. He will be helping us to bring all security into one
cohesive solution.
There is a third option. Type 3 fun is not fun while its happening, not fun remembering it, and not something you ever want to try again. I’m pretty sure this is how jumping out of a plane would feel. Your business systems being hacked is Type 3.
We will be reviewing your security posture and recommending changes to help everyone have a secure future.

CYBER CORNER
Vishing, or voice phishing, is a form of social engineering where attackers use phone calls to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card details. Scammers often pose as legitimate organizations, like banks or tech support, to gain trust.
To protect yourself from vishing attacks, avoid sharing personal information over the phone unless you're certain of the caller's identity. Always verify unsolicited calls by contacting the company directly using official contact information. Be cautious of urgent or threatening language, and consider using call-blocking tools to reduce unwanted calls.
As an IT solution provider, membership in the CompTIA Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (ISAO) means that Jatag is proactive about cybersecurity, focused on protecting our data and yours, and prepared to quickly respond to a breach should one occur.

Why Upgrade to Windows 11

As Microsoft phases out support for Windows 10, upgrading to Windows 11 has become essential for businesses. Windows 11 offers enhanced security features, improved performance, and a more streamlined user interface. With Microsoft no longer providing updates or security patches for Windows 10, staying on the outdated system increases vulnerability to cyber threats. By transitioning to Windows 11, you ensure your system remains secure, supported, and up to date with the latest advancements in technology.
